Even in the days of PCMCIA cards there were already broadband network cards that were available for computers. Typically with a pc, you would have an internal adapter card. It would allow you to connect an HP to a Toshiba, for example, or allow either access to the internet.

Today it is all done with less wires and USB thumb drives that connect the machines to the internet through thin air.  This new generation of laptop wireless cards allows individuals to use prepaid accounts to transfer data through any number of the existing networks and out into cyberspace.

Some of the best plans can provide individuals with unlimited access for a price that is comparable to the mid-range of some specialized plans. Deciding which of these plans is best for you will depend on what you want.  It will, also, determine which of the laptop wireless cards you will need.

You see, each network uses specific hardware configuration to allow for greater security coupled with quicker speeds. This is quite similar to the SIM card that you find in your mobile phone. If you have one particular phone and place a different SIM in it then you can use a different network.

The same is true with your laptop. Different laptop wireless cards allow the same laptop to access different wireless providers. Generally, they have different styles that you can choose from in a single provider's USB modem. This means that you do not have to sacrifice your style when you select the best plan option for your situation.

Basically, this is another way that the providers are looking out for the people still chained to their plans. If you are a shopper, then do not stop looking simply because you have some provider's USB modem stuck in your drive. There are new options being created as we speak.

Also, with the introduction of the faster networks, the slower ones are becoming less expensive in some markets. Likewise, those same technologies that have been standards in metropolitan areas are now becoming available in more rural locales. So, keep your eyes open even if your slot is full.
